Introduction:
Fife Street Brewing is pleased to announce a call for artists for a public art mural to be installed at our brewery. We are seeking an artist to create a mural that embodies our values of authenticity, inclusivity, and the vibrant culture of our town.
Fife Street Brewing is more than just a brewery – it is a gathering place for friends, families, and neighbors to come together over great beer, food, and conversations. Located in Charleston, WV, our brewery is deeply rooted in the local community and seeks to celebrate the unique spirit of West Virginia.
Project Overview:
The selected artist will be tasked with creating a mural that reflects the essence of Fife Street Brewing and its commitment to craft and community of Charleston, WV. The mural will be prominently displayed on an exterior wall of our brewery, measuring approximately 125 square feet (~17 ft wide by 7.5 ft tall).
Project Goals:
- Create a visually captivating mural that enhances the aesthetic appeal of Fife Street Brewing and enriches the surrounding community.
- Reflect the values of Fife Street Brewing, including authenticity, inclusivity, and a commitment to craftsmanship.
- Celebrate the culture and heritage of Charleston and West Virginia while fostering a sense of pride and belonging among residents and visitors alike.
Selection Criteria:
Artists or teams of artists will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Artistic merit and creativity demonstrated in past work.
- Relevance of artistic style and vision to the goals and values of Fife Street Brewing.
- Experience with public art projects and mural creation.
- Ability to complete the project within the designated timeline and budget.
Submission Requirements:
Interested artists are invited to submit the following materials for consideration:
- Resume or curriculum vitae highlighting relevant experience and qualifications.
- Portfolio showcasing past work, particularly examples of mural art or large-scale installations.
- Artist statement outlining your artistic vision and approach to the project.
- List of references from past clients or collaborators, including contact information.
Submission Deadline:
All submissions must be received online by May 15th, 2024. Late submissions will not be considered.
Selection Process:
A selection committee of representatives from Fife Street Brewing and the local community will review all submissions and select semi-finalists based on the criteria outlined above. Up to three artists from the applicant pool will be selected to prepare a design/drawing of their proposed artwork to be created for the new public art mural. Artists selected to create a proposal will be paid $400 for their proposal.
Compensation:
The selected artist(s) will be awarded a commission fee of $3,750 for the creation and installation of the mural. This fee is inclusive of all materials, labor, and other expenses associated with the project.
